To determine the oxidation numbers of S, C, and N in NaSCN, we can use the rules for assigning oxidation numbers. First, we know that the oxidation number of Na is +1, as it is in Group 1 of the periodic table. Next, the overall charge of the compound is 0, so the sum of the oxidation numbers of all the elements must equal 0. Since Na has a +1 charge, we can determine that S has a -2 oxidation number, as it is in the same group as oxygen and typically has a -2 oxidation number. C is typically assigned an oxidation number of +4 in compounds, and N is typically assigned an oxidation number of -3 in compounds. Therefore, in NaSCN, the oxidation numbers are: Na(+1), S(-2), C(+4), and N(-3). **

Ethanol is not considered a universal solvent because it cannot dissolve all substances. While ethanol is a good solvent for many organic compounds, it may not dissolve certain inorganic substances or nonpolar molecules. Water is often considered a universal solvent because it can dissolve a wide range of substances due to its polar nature. Ethanol's solvent properties are limited to certain types of compounds, making it not universally effective for dissolving all substances. **

A universal motor is a type of electric motor that can operate on both AC and DC power. It is called "universal" because it can run on a wide range of frequencies and voltages. These motors are commonly used in household appliances like vacuum cleaners, power tools, and kitchen appliances due to their versatility and high power-to-weight ratio. Universal motors are known for their high speed and high starting torque, making them suitable for a variety of applications. **
